This soundtrack for season two of the popular television forensics drama/science fiction/thriller Fringe relies heavily on the work of composer Chris Tilton, with additional music by Michael Giacchino. Both artists carry a solid pedigree when it comes to the subject matter, and their nearly interchangeable themes are dutifully steeped in the murky, conspiracy-tinged patina of past projects like Lost and Alias. A tense blend of icy electronica, steady foreboding percussion, and melancholy strings, Fringe: Season 2 offers up more material than most television soundtracks. The Fringe franchise remains one of the stronger additions to the science fiction genre, and its atmospheric blend of X-Files-inspired dread and CSI noir is dutifully conveyed in its music.
