Although clarinetist/arranger Matty Matlock would live until 1978, this out-of-print LP from 1959-60 was his last date as a leader. Matlock's Paducah Patrol (a ten-piece, six-horn, Dixieland-flavored outfit) was a logical extension of Bob Crosby's Bobcats. The "plot" for the album is that ten of the 12 songs came out of the three films Gold Diggers of 1933, 1935 or 1937, or the play Gold Diggers of Broadway. Among the numbers are "With Plenty of Money and You," "Lullaby of Broadway," "We're in the Money" and "Tip-Toe Thru the Tulips With Me." Matlock also provided two basic originals ("$1,000,000 Rag" and "Sugar Daddy Strut") in the same vein. Spirited music.
