Flashes of string-accented Beatles-style pop and the austere rock of Coldplay appear in the music of this Texas-based worship quintet. The band improves upon its debut EP by making its testimonies feel personal, no matter how grandly the music swells. Lead singer Sam Hancock possesses an expressive voice with a slight quavering edge; applied to songs like “This Is Love” and “Hope Is Rising,” he projects both vulnerability and clarity of vision. Guitarist Cody Clark also distinguishes himself here, especially with his blues-rock riffage on “Destiny.” If there’s a central focal point to Come Home, it’s the moment when a doubting heart surrenders to all-embracing Love — “New Beginnings” and “Healing In Your Arms” express this theme with particular power and resonance. “Innocent” provides the big, sweeping Christian radio anthem that should put Luminate on a firm career footing. But really, Come Home is more than the sum of its individual tracks — collectively, it makes a coherent statement of praise and gratitude, delivered with fire and honesty.
