Lounge lizard Louie Austen was singin' and swingin' on stages from Vienna to New York way back in the '60s, but his first long-player in 25 years is also his first foray into the world of dance music. And judging by the surprisingly successful (and surprisingly sleazy) Only Tonight, Austen's musical career seems primed to take off — again. Much credit goes to knob-noodlers Mario Neugebauer and Patrick Pulsinger, who rework Austen's potentially hokey-jokey hotel bar crooning into some horny, hot-to-trot dancefloor fodder. The nearly hour-long album features prominent cameos from Ken Cesar and raunch-rapper Peaches, but even the most compelling personalities can't shift the spotlight away from Austen, whose Don Ho-like voice seems readymade for his sex-obsessed musings on songs like "Hear My Song!," "Only You" and "Grab My Shaft!." Perhaps more shocking that his dirty mind, however, is that Only Tonight's Love Boat-meets-Lovage sex soundtrack doesn't sound at all like the novelty that it could, and probably should, be.
