This strangely attractive album was originally made in 1994 by DJ Olive (of We) and released, sort of, on cassette. Actually, it wasn't so much released as it was casually distributed, on cassette, among a network of downtown New York clubs. Then it essentially (and unsurprisingly) dropped from sight until it was rediscovered by Lloop and DJ Jameson in 2001 and reissued, in minimalist black-and-white packaging, on what appears to be a more or less fictional label called The Agriculture. Bullbbs is a continuous mix of eight tracks; no titles are indicated. The music draws heavily on samples, and indeed sounds as if it may be composed entirely out of samples, which include everything from crying babies and church choirs to backwards electric guitars and chirping insects. Actual beats are rare, but once in awhile you stumble across a few like clearings in the jungle. If you imagine sort of a cross between early Brian Eno, Banabila, and Muslimgauze, you'll get the idea. Recommended, if you can find it.
