[Edit]This final Living Colour release with original bassist Muzz Skillings is a six-song EP released after the band’s second studio album, Time’s Up, right in time for their appearance at the first Lollapalooza tour in 1991. Consisting of previously unreleased live and studio tracks, both originals and covers, Biscuits is a solid half-hour of one of the most heralded young bands of the '90s. Guitar whiz Vernon Reid had an encyclopedic knowledge of music from pop, soul, blues, funk, and rock to avant-garde jazz, and his inherent smarts on how to present a band of virtuosos who could play as a team was truly a breathtaking experience while it lasted. The live-from-CBGB version of “Desperate People” is a marvel, while the covers of James Brown’s “Talkin’ Loud and Sayin’ Nothing,” Al Green’s “Love and Happiness," and Jimi Hendrix’s “Burning of the Midnight Lamp” (all in studio versions) show their wide range of influences. Yet Living Colour were always best in a front of an audience, and the live version here of Talking Heads’ “Memories Can’t Wait” stole the song for themselves.
