Although Lifehouse has built its career with a tenacious work ethic, Almería ably demonstrates the quality that’s helped the band outlive most other post-millennial rockers: adaptability. Although the tunes are still hung on singer Jason Wade’s throaty delivery, Lifehouse's sixth studio release introduces a welcome suite of time-honored rock textures and more traditional influences. Lots of Hammond organ, bittersweet harmonies, and subdued grooves stand in contrast to the soaring post-grunge ballads of the band’s early breakthroughs. Guest appearances by Peter Frampton (“Right Back Home”) and Natasha Bedingfield (“Between the Raindrops”) make a diverse, broad-ranging pair of highlights.
