[Edit]The hits having suddenly run out, Les Paul and Mary Ford retreated to dreamland on this broadly-paced album of love songs, torch songs and the like. Without a hint of the old flash or electronic trickery, Paul merely spins gentle jazz-based obbligatos around Ford's increasingly intimate and emotional vocals. Alone, Paul often falls back upon his old repertory ("I Surrender Dear," "I Can't Get Started"); his taste, touch and note selection are, as usual, superb. But there is a sameness of approach and a lack of energy that weigh this record down; a shroud of real melancholy has descended upon this once high-flying couple.
