[Edit]A kind of retrenchment in classic Korn values comes as co-founding guitarist Brian "Head" Welch returns to the fold for his first Korn recording in a decade. But while The Paradigm Shift traffics in the rubber-band bass lines, drill-press rhythms, and razor-edged riffs that defined the band at its late-'90s commercial peak, this is more than just a "back to basics" album. Korn's evolution is evident in the psychedelic overtones and downright sunny-sounding vocal harmonies of "Never Never" and the almost power-ballad feel of "Lullaby for a Sadist."
