[Edit]Kim Pensyl's 3 Day Weekend is a solo affair with Pensyl playing all of the keyboards, synths and samplers. Pensyl is careful to vary moods, grooves and sound textures while emphasizing some strong melodies. Particularly enjoyable are his "steel drums" on "Island Postcard," the close approximations of drums and percussion and his tasteful touch on the acoustic piano. The occasional electronic rhythms can get a bit distracting, but overall this is a worthy release.
