Reflecting the easy ebb and flow of his attachment to artistic creativity, Kid606's Resilience is a simple record, and one utterly unlike his previous work. The musical ideas on display are strictly limited to one per song, there's no grand concept undergirding the whole (unless you consider simplicity itself as a concept), and it includes a wide array of tracks (recorded "at home and abroad over the last five years"). Three of the best tracks originally came from an EP recorded for the roots archivists at Soul Jazz, and another strong candidate originally appeared on a 10" for Audraglint, but this can't even be classified with the classic odds'n'sods records, where even the most consistent artist yields a few skeletons in his closet. It's a collection of simple but warped electronic pop music, where Kid606 spins a tight hook into five or six minutes of chugging or swinging bliss. No more, no less.
