The release of Kerrie Roberts’ sophomore album was delayed almost a year—but this is a bona fide case of the wait being worth it. Time for the Show improves on the solid virtues of the Christian artist’s debut release in nearly every respect, with upbeat, Spirit-affirming songs and vocal performances that invite comparisons to everyone from Whitney Houston to Kelly Clarkson. Roberts sings with both power and nuance, never letting her impressive range and sense of dynamics get in the way of her message. There’s no ambiguity in the lyrical content—these are songs of praise and inspiration, filled with yearning and bedrock belief. Producers David Garcia and Rob Graves anchor these tracks with throbbing, insistent grooves that give Clarkson plenty of room to emote and soar. “Sing,” “What Are You Afraid Of," and the title tune are joyful declarations of faith that ride electronica-tinged pop beats. The album’s ballads are even better, ranging from the fervent declaration of “Middle of It All” to the soul-deep questioning of “Not Real Yet.” “Like Jesus Loves” is a passionate portrait of the Savior that bids to become a modern worship standard.
