Pianist Keith Jarrett’s beloved Standards Trio—with double bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette—was born in a studio in January 1983. But the highly interactive and thoroughly intuitive group has cemented its reputation with a series of live recordings throughout the years. Somewhere, taken from a July 2009 concert in Lucerne, was released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band’s Standards, Vol. 1 debut. Jarrett opens with the improvised “Deep Space” before being joined by his triomates and segueing into Miles Davis’ “Solar,” which features an urgent Peacock solo. Straight-ahead readings of the delicately realized “Stars Fell on Alabama” and the angularly interpreted “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” precede the glorious title track, which morphs into another Jarrett original, “Everywhere.” The West Side Story mini-suite continues with a lively, Afro-Cuban–tinged version of “Tonight” followed by an exquisite encore of “I Thought About You.”
