John Holt has been adept at riding the vast sea changes in style that characterize Jamaican music for nearly 40 years, beginning with his stint as lead singer for beloved vocal group the Paragons in the mid-'60s. Best known for his orchestral and easy listening love ballads, — often covers of pop hits — Holt was also a capable roots rocker when he wanted to be, and a fine songwriter. This set, which includes productions from Dennis Brown, Lloyd James, Danny Ray, Roy Francis, and Holt himself, goes down bright and easy, with the opener, "Jam in the Street," an interesting cover of "Rainy Night in Georgia," and a nice version of the Motown hit "How Sweet It Is" being among the highlights.
