This second volume of "Priceless" Coltrane from the Impulse! vaults has an interesting dynamic. The program starts with the insistent "Inch Worm" followed by the inquisitive McCoy Tyner modal piano-informed "All or Nothing at All," and flows through the serene "Feeling Good," classic ballads such as the collaboration with Johnny Hartman on "Lush Life" and heart melters "What's New?" and especially "Soul Eyes," and ends with the extensive muscular discourse of "Afro Blue." "Up 'Gainst the Wall" may be the sinewy variation in the middle that seems of place. Not a peculiar mix, with nothing ultimately jarring, but perhaps a bit conservative depending on which side of Trane you most prefer. ~ Michael G. Nastos, Rovi
