[Edit]This Rarities Edition of Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen contains the bonus tracks originally available as part of the 2006 Deluxe Edition of this album. For folks who never got around to updating, this allows the listener to forego purchasing the different updates and still grab ahold of the bonus material. There are eight additional live tracks from the performances that comprised the original album. Four feature Cocker on vocals, including two Beatles tunes (“Something,” “With a Little Help from My Friends,” of course) and the Band’s “The Weight.” Musical director Leon Russell pulls out “Dixie Lullaby” and “Hummingbird.” Two single versions of “The Letter” and “Space Captain,” used to promote the album, are thrown next to two studio cuts, a loose and funky instrumental, “Warm-Up Jam” with Leon Russell and the Shelter People, and Russell singing “The Ballad of Mad Dogs and Englishmen.” It’s as appealing to Leon Russell fans as Joe Cocker fans.
