Together with Gagabirô (1985), Cabeça de Nego (1986), and Bosco (1989), Ai Ai Ai de Mim was an important album in the career of João Bosco, confirming to the critics that he was a creative composer and interpreter, fusing samba with other diverse influences. In the case in point, the influences range from the pop of "Si Si, No No" and the Arab singing in the Latin swing of "As Minas do Mar," to the African drumming in "Molambo: Farrapo de Gente Também Ama" and Ravel's "Bolero" in "Bolerando Com Ravel," to the Caribbean rhythms in "Pirata Azul" to the Iberian accent of "Das Dores de Oratórios." The romantic "Quando o Amor Acontece" was the hit of the album, which left aside the distinctive Bosco style of the furiously swinging samba to embrace a sophisticated universalizing conception.
