Louisiana is billed as "the first commercial release of the first country & western soundtrack." The 12 songs are drawn from a promotional record sent out in conjunction with the release of Jimmie Davis' 1947 bio-pic Louisiana. Four songs appear in instrumental and vocal versions, including Davis' super-smash "You Are My Sunshine." "Bang Bang" and "There's a New Moon Over My Shoulder," both big hits for Davis, are likewise included, although it should be emphasized that these are transcription recordings and not the original hit versions. The playing time, at just over 21 minutes, is too brief, but these sessions have historical value and at the very least provide a remedy to the dearth of Davis' music available domestically.
