Kimberly Jim is the soundtrack to the film in which Jim Reeves starred shortly before his death. The music runs the gamut, from rousing Broadway-style show tunes with a vocal chorus to a version of "Roving Gambler" that is one of the best and most country-sounding recordings of Reeves' late career. Other selections, including "Kimberly Jim" and "I Grew Up," are big-band vocal numbers that demonstate Reeves' versatility, and perhaps give further evidence of his continual drift toward the pop end of the spectrum. In fact, this music prompts the question as to whether Kimberly Jim is an anomaly or an indication that Reeves might have become a pure pop or easy listening vocalist had he lived. The songs on this collection don't crop up on greatest-hits packages, which makes Kimberly Jim an interesting oddity for those who wish to explore Reeves' catalog in greater depth.
