Ask anyone who's ever experienced BoomBox. Velvet ropes and too-cool-for-school VIPs had no place at London's dearly-missed meeting of freaks, fashionistas, and Pulp-schooled common people. A self-proclaimed "unpretentious underground experience … signifying a shift in clubbing attitudes," the Sunday party was put to rest on New Year's Eve 2007 and is now immortalized in a 65-minute set by its resident beat-chopper, DJ Jerry Bouthier (a.k.a. JBAG). Pressed with Kitsuné's stamp of approval — the dance/avant-pop imprint has been Paris' leading exporter of bleeding-edge singles for years now — it leans heavily on the label's revolving door of Next Big Things, from Riot In Belgium to Rex the Dog to Digitalism. Electro and beat-happy rock dominate Bouthier's crate among rare remixes of Daft Punk ("Technologic"), Feist ("1, 2, 3, 4") and more, but that's not to say he suffers from outright trendiness. Much like the party Bouthier sprung from, "BoomBox" the mix is fearless in its execution and more fun than a barrelful of drag queens.
