The song titles here are familiar to Iggy Pop and Stooges fans who likely have roughly recorded versions of these songs on albums of questionable origin. However, in 2014, Raw Power–era guitarist James Williamson recorded these Pop-Williamson songs from 1973/1974 mostly at Dave Grohl’s 606 Studios in Northridge, Calif., on Sound City’s vintage Neve board. He used the touring version of The Stooges (Mike Watt, Steve Mackay, Toby Dammit) and an unusually broad cast of guest vocalists, including The Kills’ Alison Mosshart, Ariel Pink, Jello Biafra, Mark Lanegan, and The BellRays’ Lisa Kekaula. Iggy is missed (of course), but it’s pure, high-energy rock worthy of The Stooges' legacy.
