Hailing from Rhode Island and a member of the crew Fedd Hill, Jahpan has been around for a minute, lending his gruff and rugged verses to releases from underground favorites Time Machine. On An Album Called Life, TM producer extraordinaire DJ Mekalek provides a wide assortment of beats for him to lace, rocking well-flipped samples from multiple genres and creating some typically outstanding soundscapes. Jahpan's rhyme style is grimy to the fullest, but he's not afraid to sing a little or throw a cadence curveball into the mix. Autobiographical and intelligent, his joints address race relations ("The N-Word"), love for his peoples ("Family & Friends"), and various trials and tribulations ("Humanitarian Award"). Though relatively slept-on upon its release in 2009, this is a rock-solid album and a great example of producer and emcee finely tuned into each other. Other key tracks include the throwback anthem "Better Than Before" and the neckbreaking party jam "Take a Ride."
