If you wanted evidence that the Canadian music industry has no clue how to foster its talent, look no further than this compilation. Images in Vogue got their start in the early '80s with an independent release, quickly signed to WEA, released a trio of EPs and an album, before being shuttled over to a new label for one of that album's singles. Then, following a relocation to another new label, the band's back catalog languished for nearly six years before being snapped up by yet another label for this retrospective CD...and even then the CD was initially included as a bonus disc in a compilation of '80s hits. For a band who pretty much put electronic music on the map in Canada, it's a pretty sad state of affairs, but this collection does a lot to make up for that, bringing a number of the band's best tracks to CD for the very first time. You could quibble with the inclusion of a couple of extended mixes instead of the originals, or the fact that the CD features a perfectly dreadful cover of the Marvin Gaye classic "Grapevine." It doesn't matter, though: those missteps are more than balanced by bringing early classic "Lust for Love" into the digital age and the appearance here of ultra-rare tracks from the band's first EP, Educated Man.
