Ian O'Brien's first LP alternates an extremely danceable form of tech-house (on tracks like "Mad Mike Disease") with more listener-oriented jazzy downtempo ("Dark Eye Tango," for one). Taken as a whole, Desert Scores is an impressive LP charting a type of interbreeding which puts O'Brien in league with As One's Kirk DeGiorgio and Daniel Ibbotson as the most balanced electronic/jazz fusion producers Britain offered during the late '90s.
