Hailing from Morgantown, West Virginia, fresh-faced MC Huey Mack followed his April 2013 mixtape A Boy Named Hue with debut full-length Pretending Perfection. The 12-song album volleys from hardcore themes of blatant sexuality and partying to self-depreciating rhymes about empty shows and struggling to make it in the oversaturated rap game. Pretending Perfection's banging beats are softened sometimes by gentle, introspective R&B textures and vocal hooks. Production and beats are handled by Big Jerm, Jon Kilmer, Lü Balz, and others, and Mack is joined on various tracks by guests like Mike Stud and Paul Couture.
