[Edit]The 1995 lecture at Reed College that comprises this two-CD set is not an abridged reading of Zinn's popular book of the same title. Rather, it's a distillation of the progressive ideas (and ideals) this distinguished activist/historian brings to all of his endeavors. It's also an accessible — and, at times, humorous — introduction to an underappreciated liberal thinker who refuses to agree with U.S. history as it is typically mandated. Whether discussing the causes of war, labor unions, class struggles, or the teaching of history as an academic profession, Zinn's is a voice of reasoned, intelligent dissent.
