[Edit]Formed in Virginia way back in 1984, GWAR has long been assaulting listeners with wildly over-the-top super-metal and insane, performance art–heavy live shows complete with outlandish Mad Max–meets–Rawhead Rex costumes, political effigies, mock executions, and countless gallons of fake body fluids. Battle Maximus is GWAR's 13th full-length album and the first since the untimely passing of lead guitarist Corey Smoot/Flattus Maximus in 2011; he's been replaced by Brent Purgason from Cannabis Corpse. Though GWAR has been around for nearly 30 years and weathered many personnel changes, it's remained loyal to its original sound, thankfully never updating for the times or trying to adapt to new trends. Slashing guitars, machine-gun drums, and shouted/growled vocals dominate, with mutilation-heavy imagery in no short supply.
