Gideon Freudmann is a bizarre, talented, experimental cellist who got the ear of producers from NPR's All Things Considered, a program that often uses his music (and there is much of it to use). Freudmann preceded this recording with four other Gadfly releases. Freudmann plays these unexpected compositions on electric cello with digital delays and looping equipment, creating a dense sound of artificial accompaniment. There is a sense of humor, a spirit of eclectic adventure, and mastery of classical and jazz forms in these pieces. This fusion of talent and experiment makes for a peerless and unforgettable collection of gems.
