Obscene Underground put Freaky Flow on the map, and the album's remarkable success (considering it was released rather humbly by Stickman Records relative to his later work for Moonshine) led him to internationally acclaim in the early '00s. Up until the release of this album in 1999, Freaky Flow's acclaim had been mostly reserved to Toronto, where he was a proven talent and had been for years. However, Toronto is rather removed from the rest of North America, particularly California. The release of Obscene Underground helped spread the word throughout North America — from New York and Florida to Los Angeles and Vancouver — that Freaky Flow was indeed in the Western Hemisphere's upper echelon of drum'n'bass DJs. It was perhaps no surprise when Moonshine wooed him with a multiple-album deal, making Freaky Flow a household name within the North American dance scene.
