As the first album for Frank Sinatra’s own record label, Reprise, Ring-a-Ding-Ding! races out of the gate with Johnny Mandel’s enthusiastic arrangements paying tribute to Nelson Riddle and Billy May without losing their own singularity. This wildly upbeat affair reflects Sinatra’s independence and the comforts of the Rat Pack’s heyday. True to form, Sinatra relies on the best songwriters. Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, the Gershwin brothers, Cole Porter, and Jerome Kern are here, as well as Sinatra’s personal writers Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen on the title cut. The bonus track “Have You Met Miss Jones” features an inside look at a recording session.
