It's been a decade since Fonda's last album, 2003's Catching Up to the Future, and two years since the five-song EP Better Days (with a bonus track on iTunes) proved that the group was still a going concern. Now Fonda returns with the deep atmospheric pop of Sell Your Memories. The reverb has increased, vocals have blurred, and the hooks still work their way to the front of the mix. This L.A.–based dream-pop band now emphasizes the dreamy aspect that Better Days suggested. Girl/guy harmonies (courtesy of singer/keyboardist Emily Cook and guitarist David Klotz) serve up a recipe that originated in the indie rock heyday of the '90s. Here, the sound works on the more naturalistic "Let the Sunlight Lead Us Home," where touches of Yo La Tengo peek out. "Seeing Stars" adds aggressive guitars, and "You've Got a Life of Your Own" plays faster than expected. But "Summer's Gone" and "She Is Real" fulfill any outstanding debts that Fonda may have incurred over the years.
