[Edit]

Three years after the release of Lonesome Boatman, the follow-up The Dawning of the Day was released. The Fureys' ever-increasing repertoire of instruments would now include banjo and fiddle, as well as string bass from Brian Brocklehurst (Ian Campbell Folk Group). This yielded a fuller, more produced sound. Despite the lamentable theme of "William Hollander" (about the slave trade), this album's overall mood is brighter and more uptempo than either of its predecessors. The humorous side to their music is finally introduced on "Barney Hare" and "The French Drink Wine." Chart success was briefly had with their rendition of the Humblebums' "Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway."
