This CD contains most of pianist/vocalist Fats Waller's final recordings, V-Discs cut for servicemen overseas. These solo performances are priceless for Waller is often hilarious (his reworking of "Two Sleepy People" is classic) yet still playing at his prime; "Hallelujah" has a particularly heated stride solo. Other highlights include "Ain't Misbehavin '," "You're Slightly Less than Wonderful," "This Is So Nice It Must Be Illegal" and "That's What the Birdie Sang to Me." In addition there is a song taken from the movie Stormy Weather ("That Ain't Right" which has Waller giving plenty of backtalk to Ada Brown's vocal) and a rare organ solo, "Bouncin' on a V-Disc." Less than three months later Fats Waller was dead; he definitely went out on top. Recommended.
