Punk as puke, My Man Grumpy is classic F.Y.P: a fantastic album from start to finish and perhaps their catchiest material ever. New to the band's oeuvre are several pop-punk tunes that make their way onto this record amongst the torrentially perturbed, underachiever hardcore that these kiddies spew like nobody else. You can hear a bit of the Queers, the Muffs, and the Descendents on tunes like "Pork Rinds & Yoohoo" and "I Don't Wanna Carry Your Books," where lead squealer Todd Congelliere does some singin' about girls and the like. Though they may be at their very best when belting out rapid-fire bottle rockets like "Powerlines" and "S******l," My Man Grumpy proves they are quite well rounded and highly capable of all sorts of punk rock schtick. Sadly, this was the first and last record to feature one of their most solid lineups, which included troubled bassist Joe Ciauri, who later committed suicide. The band had a hard time recovering after his loss, and released one more record before breaking up and reforming as the slightly different and less ferocious Toys That Kill.
