Nick Dartardly and the Escape Artists serve up a twangy, beefy brand of American heartland rock. The Circus Is in Town, the band's second album, continues the hard-working, roots rock ethic found on their debut. Guitarist and vocalist Scott Miller wrote all of the songs and brings a consistency to the material. Melodically, the band keeps veering into bluesy territory and mining seams already explored by the likes of Wilco and the Wallflowers, Hootie & the Blowfish, and even Creedence Clearwater Revival. Lots of chugging rhythms, husky harmonies, and the scent of hayseed in the air.
