Eclectic pairs the highly lauded Austin-based Eric Johnson with jazz veteran Mike Stern for a set of original mostly instrumental tunes that live up to the album’s name. Moving from the back-and-forth funk of “Roll with It” to the Wes Montgomery–style bebop of “Tidal” to the Santana-like “Remember” to a bluesy version of Hendrix’s “Red House,” these modern masters have the entire history of the instrument at their fingertips. They also do an excellent job at pushing into some far corners like the African-inspired intro to “Bigfoot,” making this truly one for the guitar freaks out there.
