Early Clapton Collection contains a selection of seven songs from the Yardbirds, and several tracks the guitarist cut with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. There are no big hits here — the Yardbirds' "I Ain't Got You" is the closest thing to an actual hit — and nothing really qualifies as a rarity, since many tracks have been previously released on collections like Crossroads and The History of Eric Clapton. This isn't a bad way to gather all this material in one place, and much of it — particularly the Bluesbreakers sessions that also feature Jimmy Page — will be of interest to hardcore fans. However, there are other collections available featuring the same material, and some of those may be preferable to this disc.
