Here's the scoop on the 2008 release Brothers, credited to Enuff Z'nuff's co-founders, Chip Znuff and Donnie Vie — it's not a new recording at all. It was originally issued as a Japan-only release back in 1995, and then two years later was issued stateside under the title Seven and credited as a full-on Enuff Z'nuff release. But now, U.S. fans have the opportunity to be fooled into buying a recording they may very well already own. Not surprisingly, although originally credited to just Znuff and Vie, Brothers definitely sounds 100 percent like your typical latter-day Enuff Z'nuff release — little of the hair metal tendencies of earlier discs is featured, and there is more of the duo's fixation on Beatlesque psychedelic power pop. For a sampling of this approach, give a listen to such standouts as "Wheels," "5 Smiles Away," and "L.A. Burning," while a cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" shows Znuff and Vie are not ashamed to blatantly advertise their chief songwriting influence. If you don't already own either of the previous versions of Brothers, then the time may finally be right for you to take the plunge on its third time around.
