Three-time Grammy-nominated producer and engineer Steven Wilson remixed this classic album. The progressive rock trio's second album is available here as it originally was released and as a completely new experience, with two additional tracks, "Oh, My Father" and an alternate take of "Mass," a piece of the title track. As an album, Tarkus was considered more focused than the group's self-titled debut and the precision of the multi-part suite of the side-long title track established ELP as progressive rock's most ambitious and successful practitioners to date. Side two is deliberately less cohesive. Keith Emerson's organ drives the power-packed Greg Lake-sung "A Time and A Place." It's proof that the band could rock in under three minutes without losing their chops in the process. "Jeremy Bender" adds a touch of humor and honky-tonk! While "Are You Ready Eddy?" really throws off the prog-crowd, with a 50s-Jerry Lee Lewis-styled closer.
