Veteran Brooklyn MC Masta Ace has a long history of great concept albums, including SlaughtaHouse, Disposable Arts, and A Long Hot Summer. On The Show, he joins forces with Wordsworth, Punchline, and Strick, forming the group EMC, who take us through a day in the life of an independent rap crew on tour. Using smart storytelling lyrics interspersed with cinematic skits that hark back to the days of early De La Soul, they address the many crazy pitfalls of life on the road, i.e. clueless promoters, angry merch guys, disgruntled girlfriends, etc. Not content with just complaining, they also rep the things that make it all worthwhile: the love of real hip-hop, hottie groupies in the mix, and the roar of the crowd. Like most of Ace's work, it benefits from highly visual rhyme schemes, subtle humor, and classic-minded production from Marco Polo, The ARE, and Nicolay. Whether you're a fellow struggling artist or just a fan of that true school sound, this is one Show you don't want to miss. Check "Leak It Out," "Who We Be," and "Traffic" featuring Little Brother.
