Joining Silver Wave with her seventh album, Redemption Road, Eliza Gilkyson continued to offer some of the most rewarding folk-pop of the 1990s. While there was more of a noticeable cackle in her voice, the singer was still quite capable of hitting the pretty notes and maintained an enviable range. There isn't even an occasional fast-tempo rocker this time — Gilkyson sticks to a pastoral, quiet setting, offering songs that are as reflective as they are moving. "Her Melancholy Muse" examines the dark parts of one's mind, while "Our Time" addresses the challenges facing the post-baby boomer generation, and "Prayer 2000" deals with counting one's blessings. Gilkyson's outstanding Gold Castle output left no doubt that she was a singer and composer of tremendous depth, and Redemption Road served as additional proof.
