"Thinking of You" was Eddie Fisher's first major hit in the fall of 1950, and the use of the title for this 1957 album gave an indication of its contents. Although it was not billed as a "greatest hits" or "best of" LP, it was a compilation of single recordings Fisher had made between 1950 and 1954, ten of which were among his 35 chart entries in that period, including his four number ones — "Wish You Were Here," "I'm Walking Behind You," "Oh! My Pa-Pa (O Mein Papa)," and "I Need You Now" — as well as two Top Tens, "Thinking of You" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time." The rest were down-chart items or B-sides. By 1957, Fisher's recording career had taken a remarkable dip, even as he maintained his popularity on television, moving from a 15-minute show to an hour-long variety series that September. From being one of the biggest pop singles artists of 1952-1955, his discs were now marginal sellers. Thinking of You served to remind listeners of his earlier triumphs, but RCA Victor and Fisher might have been better advised to record a new album instead. There had not been such a record since 1955 and wouldn't be until 1958, by which time the singer and his record company were about to end their relationship. Old fans may have welcomed the chance to replace some of their scratchy old singles with this LP, but not enough availed themselves of this opportunity to make Thinking of You a significant seller.
