[Edit]On the Banks of the Sunny San Juan compiles a generous assortment of radio transcriptions recorded by Eddie Dean from 1939-1941 for the Standard Transcription service. The 26 tracks feature many Western songs (including a handful of Dean originals) as well as versions of Ernest Tubb's "Walkin' the Floor Over You" and "I Wonder Why You Said Goodbye." Dean is more the cowboy crooner on these performances than on his later recordings, which suits his deep, resonant voice. The sound quality is excellent, and the instrumental accompaniment is polished and varied. Dean's ARC and Decca recordings from this period are generally unavailable, so On the Banks of the Sunny San Juan is a goldmine of material from the early years of this silver screen cowboy.
