[Edit]With his warm voice, gentle nature, and his easygoing, emotionally sincere way with a ballad, Don Williams wracked up several hits in an unassuming countrypolitan style in the 1970s, and if he was never much of an innovator, he didn’t ruffle feathers, either, and the best of his tracks have the feel of an old friend coming clean about the earnestness of love. This brief ten-song set collects some of these, including his gorgeous “I Believe in You” and the effortless and endearing shuffle “Tulsa Time.” It’s far from the whole story, but for most casual listeners, it’ll work just fine.
