Don Rader is an American who has spent quite a few years playing trumpet in Australia. This Australian release teams him in a set of duets with pianist Roger Frampton. The music ranges from quiet bop to some spacey improvisations, particularly when Frampton switches to sopranino or a tenor recorder. Of the originals, "Carnivale," "The Dreamtime" and "Two of One and Another Kind" are the most memorable, while the standards include "There Is No Greater Love," "The Meaning of the Blues" and "Quicksilver." The emphasis is on introspective pieces, making this a moody set of well-played music that is at its best when used for backgrounds.
