[Edit]Back in 1996, California producer DJ Shadow dropped his breakout album Endtroducing... to universal acclaim around the world. His heavily layered, sample-laden soundscapes inspired a whole generation of bedroom beatmakers, helped spark the short-lived “turntablist” movement, and made aspiring crate diggers out of kids everywhere. His next studio album The Private Press followed much of the same template, though his following release The Outsider took some fans by surprise because of its seemingly oddball collaborations and experimentations with the budding Hyphy sound. Prefacing his upcoming album The Less You Know The Better, I Gotta Rokk finds Shadow back in hyper-sample mode, with the hard-hitting, guitar-laced title track plus "Def Surrounds Us" and "I've Been Trying," two singles from 2010, and remixes for all three of them.
