One of the best, most influential, longest-lasting producers to ever cook up a beat, DJ Premier is the epitome of real hip-hop. He's been making ferocious tracks since the late '80s, produced all of the Gang Starr albums, basically created the careers of Jeru the Damaja and Group Home, and has worked with pretty much everyone decent in the rap game. Perhaps most impressively, he's never given up his signature style of raw loops, punch-you-in-the-eye drums, and scratched hooks. Get Used To Us serves as a sampler of what we can expect from his Year Round Records label, loaded with aggressive beatwork and rugged wordplay from new jacks and established veterans alike. His proteges NYG'z appear on two tracks, as do relative unknowns Nick Javas, Tef, and Khaleel, while old-school heads are treated to outstanding joints from OGs like Grand Puba and KRS-One ("5%"), MC Eiht ("Fine By Me"), Blaq Poet ("Bang Dis!"), and Freddie Foxxx on the contemplative closer "The Gang Starr Bus." Saigon, Papoose, Joell Ortiz, Styles P, and Lady of Rage also get busy, but it's Preem's spectacular sonic booms that are the real star of the show here.
