A veteran DJ/producer out of Los Angeles, DJ Drez has been putting in work for many years. He's released eight albums and has collaborated with some of the Cali underground's biggest names, including Living Legends, Del the Funky Homosapien, Aceyalone, and Abstract Rude, as well as bigger crossover stars like Macy Gray and The Black Eyed Peas. The Lotus Masters is the fourth edition of his ongoing Jahta Beat series (combining the Rasta "Jah" and Hindu "Jata"). It finds the deck diablo/beatmaker delving deep into the spiritual world, drawing heavily on Hindi and Yogi influences, as well as dub reggae, '60s oldies, downtempo, and good old-fashioned hip-hop. Well over an hour in length, the album overflows with sitars, Indian percussion, and mantra chanting, as well as neck-bending riddims, swift scratches, and creatively manipulated samples. "For What It's Worth (Dub)," "Wind Talker," and "Dragon Mudra" are highlights.
