A welcome follow-up to his Trojan Document mix from 2006, Andy Smith's Greensleeves Document finds the Portishead DJ plundering the vaults of the reggae label Greensleeves with a little help from U.K. MC Brother Culture. Culture's lively vocals help bridge Smith's selections from this more modern label, so expect mostly dancehall — and plenty of it early dancehall — with a smattering of roots reggae and just a touch of dub. The blending of Jacob Miller's "Baby I Love You So" and the song's dub version, "King Tubby Meets the Rockers Uptown" from Augustus Pablo, makes for a fine mini-mix centerpiece. From Toyan's "Children Children" to the closing bit of "Jah Love" the ride is pure pleasure, paced and chosen so well that Smith proves himself a Greensleeves aficionado. Don't expect a chilled-out session because this mix is busy (John Holt's massive "Police in Helicopter" is on the decks for a mere 81 seconds), but fans of his Trojan mix or any of the other Document releases shouldn't think twice.
