Set in a postapocalyptic Chicago where teens are segregated by their virtues, Veronica Roth’s debut novel quickly became a sensation among teens and young adults, inspiring sequels and a budding film franchise via an 2014 adaptation by director Neil Burger. Its eclectic song-score was executive-produced by Hollywood musical mixmaster general Hans Zimmer, with textures by Dutch electronic artist/producer Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg). Anchored by German electro-house artist Zedd’s "Find You" (featuring Matthew Koma and Miriam Bryant), it features standout new contributions from Northern Ireland’s Snow Patrol, M83, Skrillex, Pia Mia w/Chance the Rapper, Pretty Lights, and France’s Woodkid (Yoann Lemoine) deftly channeling the spirit of Morrissey. But it's the young, eclectically rooted English singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding who quickly becomes the musical focus: "We started working with songs from Ellie's album Halcyon and soon found that the texture of her music and the tone of her voice perfectly matched our film," notes director Burger. "In many ways Ellie has become the inner voice of our heroine, Tris."
